Green Theanine

Found in greatest abundance in Japanese green tea, L-Theanine is a non-protein amino acid that is used to promote relaxation, modulate mood and support overall health. Platinum Naturals' Green Theanine contains Suntheanine® L-Theanine, a 100% pure patented pharmaceutical grade L-Theanine from Taiyo, Japan, as well as decaffeinated green tea and organic alfalfa leaf.

Promotes relaxation and stress relief

L-Theanine is one of the few nutrients able to cross the blood-brain barrier with relative ease. By altering levels of serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitters in the body, L-Theanine encourages relaxation without causing drowsiness. In a study of university students, taking 200mg of L-Theanine eased anxiety and increased alpha brain wave activity (the type associated with relaxation) after only 40 minutes.

Balances the brain

L-Theanine acts as an antagonist to caffeine. L-Theanine has been shown in animal studies to counteract the negative effects of caffeine and ephedra, while increasing the output of the brain neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA acts as a "balancer" for the brain.

Controls blood pressure

It is common knowledge that stress is associated with spontaneous hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. Research has shown L-Theanine is effective at decreasing or eliminating the onset of spontaneous increases in blood pressure. This may be due to L-Theanine's ability to promote calmness, concentration and focus during stressful times.

Curbs food cravings

Cortisol, the stress hormone, is an adrenal hormone that induces carbohydrate cravings and increases the insulin response, causing fat storage in the belly area. Recently, researchers found that women who secreted higher levels of cortisol while under stress had a much greater tendency to snack on high-fat foods. L-Theanine lowers cortisol production and therefore carbohydrate cravings by promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels.
