Who is Platinum Naturals?
By chance
Founder, David Khang, the son of first generation immigrants grew up in Canada, learning the retail health food and supplement business from his parents' successful retail business.
David completed his university degree in Toronto and had embarked on his career when his keen interest in natural health supplements led him to a seminar conducted by the late, renowned Dr. Bernard Jensen. Dr. Jensen focused much of his work on human intestine health and its effect on overall human health. Dr. Jensen inspired David to discover the importance of the 2 founding principles of David's new natural supplement company - Platinum Naturals.
David's personal mission
The principles were 1) the absolute importance of using only high quality ingredients that are as close to nature as possible. This means that no harsh chemicals are used for extraction nor does the company use any binders, fillers or excipients in formulations and 2) the importance of absorption of any food or supplement ingredient for the human body to optimize its benefit from the ingredient. These principles combined with his own desire for improved health, David knew he found his calling.
Platinum Naturals is born
In 1996 David founded Platinum Naturals and his clear vision was as it is today:
"To provide top quality nutritional supplements that are made to be as close to nature as possible and to supply those supplements to as many people as possible to improve their health and well being."
Only the best ingredients
By studying the needs of his own family David began to develop a line of supplements that would meet the high standards of Platinum Naturals. Unlike many companies in the supplement industry, David focused on developing a small number of products but products that are important cornerstones for any supplement program e.g. multivitamins, iron and calcium.
The Platinum Naturals team also felt that in order to produce the best, their vital role would be to monitor scientific research into various materials and processes, as well as do in-house research on functional claims.
Safety is paramount
Platinum Naturals puts safety as a priority. We ensure no harsh solvents are used and that regulatory limits are placed for heavy metals and environmental contaminants, artificial chemicals, with safety data to support its use.
Absorbency becomes the key
As Platinum Naturals grew, the team continued to investigate ways to make its products better. Recognizing the importance of absorption, the Platinum Naturals team began to focus on finding a different and more effective formulation type that would improve absorption.
One of the dilemmas with supplements is the fact that to get a significant enough dose of an active ingredient, using pills, tablets and standard capsules, you had to take an unreasonable number of them, or the pills had to be made very large. Too large for the average user. David wondered, could there be a different way to look at this.
David and his team continued their research with a focus on how to use the observation of how skin creams were absorbed. They noticed that if grind up a powder, mix it with water and place it on the skin, very little is absorbed. However if the same powder is mixed with an edible oil, the ingredients are absorbed quickly. The team felt that there must be a way to use this learning to improve absorption of nutritional supplements.
This led to months of researching formulas and scientific literature for confirmation of the team's hunch. They had success on both fronts. Independent researchers had begun to show that mixing various nutrients with edible oils does indeed increase their absorbency, often by huge percentages. And their experiments led them to the best method of mixing ingredients with the right oils to produce a highly absorbable formulation.
Omega Suspension Technology (OST®)
This activity culminated in the development of Platinum Naturals' unique, proprietary supplement delivery system, called Omega Suspension Technology (OST®). This was truly a breakthrough as increased absorbency allowed Platinum's products to deliver more active ingredients in a smaller supplement. Athletes happy with Platinum products, but wanted more
One problem that athletes face with all products on the market is the fear of false positives on anti-doping tests due to cross contamination or simply poorly formulated products.
Although the athletes trusted Platinum, the Platinum Team wanted to do more to help athletes. They researched anti-doping issues and discovered NSF International, North America's premier testing laboratory had created a "Certified for Sport" testing protocol to guarantee that a product was free from substances banned in sport, as well as true to it's label claims.
This was just what the team was looking for. While it is a very demanding and expensive process to get certified, the Team felt it was worth it to help athletes avoid accidentally taking a banned substance.
After months of testing and inspections, Activ-X, Platinum Naturals' premier multivitamin for athletes, received certification. It was the first and is still the only Canadian multivitamin to receive a "Certified for Sport™" certification.
Platinum Naturals continues to grow
